The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 150 calls between Friday, April 29, and Thursday, May 5. Below are selected reports.

At 9:15 a.m. Friday, April 29, at the Water and Monroe streets intersection, a man was heard screaming. He was carrying a guitar, and when officers arrived, he was observed yelling indiscernibly and at nobody in particular.

The man is well-known to police. No crime had occurred and officers left the area.

At 5 p.m. Friday, April 29, a welfare check was called in from the 1900 block of Blaine Street after a man was seen lying in the grass near the food bank. Officers in the area looked for the man to check on his well-being, but he had left the location.

At 6:40 a.m. Saturday, April 30, a caller in the 200 block of Thomas Street reported a man outside shouting, making “animal noises,” and being a general nuisance.

The caller had asked the man to move to the other side of the building he was at, but the man declined. The caller wanted the guy to either quiet down or leave the area.

Officers arrived to talk to the man, but he’d already left.

At 11:55 a.m. Saturday, April 30, in the 400 block of Sims Way, a store employee reported that a shoplifter had taken milk from their store.

The male shoplifter was wearing a blue shirt, jean shorts, and a Nike T-shirt and was seen in the deli section of the business.

The employee told police that the man had been entering and stealing from the store every day in the past few days and asked for him to be trespassed.

Officers arrived at the store and contacted the man, issuing him a trespass from the property.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, a resident at the Clay and Benton streets intersection reported a suspicious person driving a silver Toyota Prius with camera gear and an open laptop in the car.

The driver was a woman and she had been parked at the intersection for around two hours. The resident approached the vehicle and tried to speak with the woman, but she drove away.

An officer in the area approached the woman in the Prius and asked what she was doing. The woman identified herself as a private investigator and told the officer that police dispatch knew of her presence. The officer checked with dispatch, who were not aware of the woman. She told the officer that she was conducting an overnight investigation.

No crime had occurred and the officer left.

At 2:15 p.m. Saturday, April 30, a caller in the 900 block of Water Street reported a man harassing customers at a nearby store. They said that the man was angry and harassing people in the store, asking what their names were and spitting all over the floor at one point.

The man had come in to pick up a pizza order, but didn’t have enough cash. The business gave him the pizza anyway, but the man insisted that the store owed him money. Then the man began a tirade, sitting on the floor multiple times, confronting people in the shop, throwing his pizza down after getting mad, and keying the cars of store employees after leaving the business.

Officers arrived and contacted the man who was a block away from the pizza store. The man appeared to be having some sort of mental episode and was cited for malicious mischief. Charges were forwarded to the county prosecutor.
