The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 160 calls between Friday, May 6, and Thursday, May 12. Below are selected reports.

At 3:50 p.m. Sunday, May 8, a woman in the 1500 block of 19th Street was reportedly yelling at somebody to “get out.” The situation had been going on for around 45 minutes.

Officers arrived and contacted the woman, who was yelling at her boyfriend.

After talking to her, officers were told that she had found her boyfriend in bed with another woman. The argument had not gotten physical, and the other woman was waiting in her car when police arrived. Both parties were provided resources and nobody was arrested or removed.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8, an assault was reported near the Jefferson Street and East Sims Way intersection after two Navy sailors had gotten into a fight. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted one of the sailors.

The other man had already left the area. The sailor had a possible broken nose and damaged eye socket.

At 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9,
in the 700 block of Water Street, somebody reported that a woman had stolen from their business. The transient woman had walked into the store and taken a box of mints.

The store’s video footage showed her taking the mints. Officers arrived and retrieved the mints from the woman. The reporting party told police that they would like to pursue charges and wanted the woman to be trespassed.

She was criminally cited for theft and given a trespass admonishment. The woman was booked into jail and released shortly after.

At 6:45 p.m. Monday, May 9,
a caller in the 500 block of Sheridan Street reported seeing and hearing a transient man yelling and charging toward the caller on a bike.

The man had been wearing a blue jacket and gray beanie and was riding a pink bicycle. Officers arrived in the area to investigate, but the man had already left. No crime had been committed and the officers left.

At 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, someone near the Franklin Street and Pierce Street intersection reported potential animal abuse to police, saying that a dog had been locked in a car. Officers came to the scene and observed a dog in the car with the windows down. It was also 53 degrees outside.

No crime had occurred and the pooch was in good spirits so officers left the area.

At 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, a caller in the 800 block of Sheridan Street reported an unwanted person in the hospital’s birthing center. An unknown person attempted to get into the family birthing center in the hospital through the side entrance.

After arriving at the hospital and speaking with the caller, officers contacted the person who’d snuck into the birthing center. She told officers that she was there to see a friend that recently gave birth.

The woman is known to have mental health issues. She left the hospital, and the officers exited shortly after.
