At 1:14 a.m. on July 27, police received a report of an unknown man asleep outside the reporting party’s hotel room door in the 2000 block of Washington Street. Attempts made to wake the subject by the victim were met with profanity from the suspect, who later entered the hotel room and refused to leave after repeated requests.

Officers arrived on scene to find the victim, another woman and an infant. Officers later determined that the suspect had attempted to hit one of the women at the scene. The suspect was arrested for first-degree burglary and assault in the fourth degree.

Law enforcement have noted a recent increase in vehicle theft and burglaries throughout the area.

The would-be thieves’ attempts were thwarted when it appeared that they had not brought a properly sized hitch ball to tow the trailer.

The victim exited their residence and witnessed a red pickup truck driving away along with a black SUV, believed to be an accomplice vehicle. The subject was reportedly wearing a black ski mask.

Later, at 10:29 p.m., the same suspect from the previous call, had reportedly demanded money from someone in the 1300 block of Water Street, near the Port Townsend ferry terminal.

The subject was located by police and a report for possible harassment was written and forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office. The suspect in the two cases was not arrested due to jail restrictions related to COVID-19.
