The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 412 calls for service between Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, 2017. The list includes 13 investigations of 911 calls, 3 death reports, 5 incidents of disorderly conduct, 5 disturbances, 4 reports of domestic violence, 15 field investigations, 7 malicious mischief reports, 9 parking complaints, 7 patrol requests, 9 reports of lost/found property, 2 suicide attempts/threats, 7 calls on suspicious activity, 9 traffic collisions, 15 theft reports, 7 traffic complaints and 113 traffic stops.

Not all calls generate a written case report. The Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader went over the call logs with Police Chief Michael Evans on Monday, Jan. 22. Among the reports and incidents available for review were:

A criminal trespass complaint was made at about 6 a.m., Jan. 17 at a residence in the 1500 block of 19th Street. A man, 35, reported that a woman, 59, whom he had allowed to spend the night, was now acting erratically and was refusing to leave. Police took a knife from the woman, but she had made no threats. Police gave the woman several opportunities to exit the property voluntarily and when she refused, she was arrested for criminal trespass and taken to jail.

A Port Townsend man reported Jan. 18 that sometime during the night an estimated $1,000 worth of tools were taken from a shed in the 200 block of Monroe Street. The lock on the shed door had been damaged so access could be gained.

Police responded at about 12:30 a.m., Jan. 18 to a report of a Port Townsend man, 32, riding a combination skateboard/bicycle near the hospital when he was approached by a man, 33, who claimed the property was his. The man on the skateboard/bike tried to leave the scene, but crashed and was overtaken by the older man. The suspect allegedly pulled a knife, and took the property. Police talked to a witness, found video from a nearby store, which provided a description of the suspect, and later found him elsewhere in town. The man, who was apparently staying with a relative who had been living near the hospital, was found with two knives in his possession. He was arrested for robbery and for possession of methamphetamine.

A woman called police to report an assault that allegedly occurred at about 10 p.m., Jan. 19 at a residence in the 3200 block of San Juan Avenue. Police found that no one had been injured, so there was no criteria for a mandatory domestic violence arrest. The woman agreed to leave the residence for the night.

A female, 16, was apprehended by a grocery store employee at about 9 a.m., Jan. 19 for allegedly trying to shoplift a $2.61 can of energy drink. Police knew the suspect as a youth at risk; she was taken to juvenile services.

Officers were dispatched at 6:42 p.m., Jan. 20 to a report from a Clallam County resident who said a female roommate who had moved out of his house had stolen some of his personal property. The man said the woman was in Port Townsend, and he described some specific items, including a pillow and comforter. Shortly after the call, an officer spotted a car at a grocery store, and in plain view in the car’s rear window were two of the items described as stolen property. The officer stopped the car as it was being driven away. The car was being driven by a Port Townsend man, with the female suspect in the passenger seat. A search located items the caller had described; the Clallam County man was in PT and came to the scene, using a photo on his cell phone to help identify his property. Officers got a search warrant upon being told by the caller that narcotics might also be located. The subsequent search uncovered suspected narcotic drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of a substance that field-tested as heroin, according to police. The female suspect, 24, and the male driver, 33, were both arrested and booked into jail.

An unlocked bicycle was reported stolen on Jan. 20. The theft occurred sometime between Jan. 10 and Jan. 20 from the 1600 block of Water Street. The older bike has rusty handlebars and a blue basket on back, which contained gloves, a bike helmet and a bike lock.

Two brothers staying at a hotel in the 300 block of Benedict Street became suspects in an assault case reported at 6:16 p.m., Jan. 21. The brothers, ages 36 and 34, had apparently been consuming alcohol and got into a scuffle that got out of hand. One brother was arrested on a warrant out of Seattle and was taken to jail. The other brother left the hotel.

Officers responded to a suspicious persons report at 12:32 a.m., Jan. 23 of a vehicle that had been parked for about 90 minutes in the 600 block of Hancock Street. The subjects in the car were making noise and cursing, and someone appeared to be vomiting outside the car. Police arrived to find a female, 19, behind the wheel; a male, 20, in the front seat; and a male, also 20, on the rear seat who appeared to be passed out. Officers reported an open bottle of whiskey near the rear seat and vomit outside the car. Officers determined the female was not under the influence. Each of the males was determined to be intoxicated, and each was cited for being a minor under the influence of alcohol.
