At 9:45 a.m. Sunday, May 1, a resident living in the 4900 block of Landes Street near the Jefferson County Fairgrounds reported that their barn had been broken into overnight. The thief broke the deadbolt lock on the secured barn door and stole car batteries from an RV in the barn.

There are no suspects at this time.

At 4:20 a.m. Monday, May 2, in the 400 block of East Sims Way, officers investigated two people looking through the garbage at a nearby grocery store.

The officers spoke with the two people, who were a mother and son. Officers found out that the mother had a restraining order against the son after he’d lied about his identity to them, and he was violating the order by being with her.

After confirming the restraining order, the son was taken into custody.

At 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, a business owner in the 3100 block of East Sims Way reported a female shoplifter in their store, sitting in the dining area. The woman took a bottle of soda from the business, at least, the owner said.

Officers arrived and contacted the woman. They found a bottle of stolen root beer on her. The store owner didn’t want to pursue charges against her, but wanted her to be trespassed.

The woman was trespassed from the store for 12 months.

At 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, a caller in the 1700 block of Ninth Street reported that somebody had broken into the communal bathroom of a tiny home community there.

The suspect had used a screwdriver to break the bathroom lock and get in, but the caller was unsure why.

The bathroom lock and two doors were damaged, causing around $225 in total damages.

The suspect is a former resident of the tiny home community, although the caller couldn’t remember the last name of the person.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, a resident in the 1000 block of Cedar Street reported to police that construction workers at a property nearby were playing music really loud and wanted police to tell them to turn it down.

Officers arrived in the area but couldn’t hear any music, and they attempted to contact the resident to no avail.

At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, a rental property owner in the 4600 block of Jackman Street reported to police that renters had been growing cannabis on their property.

They said that it smelled of weed all the time and the property owner was looking into getting a professional cleaner to help with clearing out the smell. They were concerned that it may be illegal to grow it on the property and wanted to check with the police.

At 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, a caller at the Cliff Street and Hastings Avenue intersection reported that a man was harassing two kids there.

Two juveniles got off the school bus and a man had come down from his cul-de-sac in the woods, and began calling the kids names and telling them to take their masks off.

The man appeared to be in his 60s, and was wearing a knit hat and gray coat and had a medium-sized, black dog with him.

A similar incident had occurred between the two parties a few months ago, and no other information on the man was available.
