The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 173 calls between Friday, April 8, and Thursday, April 14. Below are selected reports.

At 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, a caller in the 200 block of Victoria Avenue reported to police that their home had been burglarized between 6 and 8 a.m. The caller believed that the burglar had a key to their home, since both deadbolt locks had been unlocked with a key and the door knob was left locked, which the caller never does. The caller believes the thief is their 24-year-old foster daughter. An officer met with the caller, who stated that multiple gold and silver coins had been taken along with rubies and sapphires at the home for a total loss of $25,000 to $30,000. The thief had also attempted to pry open the caller’s safe, but couldn’t break in. The officer noted that the burglar knew exactly what they were looking for when they robbed the home.

At 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, a caller in the 1600 block of Grant Street reported an incident from three days prior. The caller was an employee at the local middle school, and told police that three students had broken into the middle school on Sunday. Two classrooms were broken into and the students vandalized multiple spots in the facility. Police met with the employee and school superintendent, who have been handling the incident and punishment internally, and advised the school officials to contact juvenile services. All three students were identified and the police report was completed.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 in the 600 block of Hancock Street, an apartment tenant requested a welfare check on their neighbors. The neighbors had allegedly been smoking methamphetamine in their apartment and appeared to be in bad shape. The apartment’s manager knocked on the neighbors’ door, and one of the tenants crawled to the door and appeared to be unable to walk.

Officers arrived and called the tenants, asking them to come outside and chat. Officer spoke with one of the tenants, and the other said they did not need assistance. They appeared to be OK and no crime had occurred, so officers left the apartment.

At 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, a caller in the 1200 block of Water Street reported that somebody had attempted to get into a locked door at the nearby bank.

The bank is undergoing construction, and somebody attempted to get into the bank’s locked door and ended up damaging it. There are no suspects at this time.

At 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 in the 600 block of Hancock Street, a bystander observed a possible domestic abuse situation. They reported a black Ford lifted truck with a man inside beating up a woman passenger. The bystander said they heard the woman say, “He’s punching me” while the truck was passing by.

The truck was leaving on Sims Way, was very loud, and possibly had large skull decals on the hood.

The bystander said the truck was speeding through the parking lot and driving erratically, and was last seen driving on US Highway 20 near the U-Haul.

Officers located the truck along with the man and woman. The man denied striking the woman, saying that she had taken his phone and he was trying to grab it back. The woman agreed, denying she had been hit by him. Officers did not observe any physical injuries or signs of abuse between the two. The woman had a local warrant and was arrested by police.

At 8:50 p.m. Thursday, April 14, a couple in the 1900 block of Sherman Street was observed yelling at and chasing each other around the nearby parking lot.

A caller reported the incident and added that they hadn’t seen an assault. The caller said the man may have hit the woman, but hasn’t seen anything.

The man had left the parking lot in a vehicle, and officers arrived and talked to the woman. She said the incident had been verbal only, no assault had happened between the two, and she didn’t need assistance from police. Officers left the area.
