The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 161 calls between Friday, Feb. 17, and Thursday, Feb. 23. Below are selected reports.
At 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, an assault occurred at a gas station in the 1400 block of West Sims Way after one man slammed another man against the wall of the store. The aggressor drove away before police arrived.
The two men were aquaintenaces. According to the report, the victim received a potential minor back injury from being slammed. The case is under investigation.
At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the 700 block of Harrison Street, a man was seen messing with electric outlets and an electric bike on a resident’s property.
The resident confronted the man and chased him away.
The resident told law enforcement the man was probably attempting to steal the bike; he was described as being in his 30s, wearing a green coat, with dark hair. Officers were unable to locate the man, and nothing appeared to be stolen from the residence.
At 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, a man in Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park was seen swinging an axe and screaming at a footbridge in the park. Officers contacted the man, who was transient, and he said he was just yelling at himself and that it wouldn’t happen again.
At 7:25 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the 700 block of Water Street, a woman was arrested for drunk driving.
A caller reported seeing a woman slumped over in her car and knocked on the window to get her attention to no avail.
The car was still running and partially blocking the street and the woman was passed out in the driver’s seat.
Officers contacted the woman and requested aid for medical evaluation. Officers knocked loudly on her window multiple times to wake her up, eventually succeeding.
The woman appeared to be very confused and struggled to unlock her doors, turning the car on and off multiple times before officers eventually were granted access to the car. She struggled to stand up and police conducted a field sobriety test.
The woman showed multiple signs of intoxication and a test resulted in a 0.23 blood alcohol concentration. She was arrested for driving under the influence.
