Port Townsend Police received 149 calls for service from Monday, Aug. 24 through Sunday, Aug. 30. Below are selected reports.

At 9:40 a.m. Aug. 24, police received a report of a possible fraud in the 2500 block of St. Helens Place. The victim told police that his credit card had been used for a $214 purchase online without his permission and he had already contacted the vendor about the fraud.

The victim reported that he had recently had computer problems, and on three separate occasions his computer had been accessed remotely by outside parties.

At 10:42 a.m. Aug. 24, a vehicle prowl was reported in the 1300 block of 19th Street. The victim said she didn’t recall locking the door to her vehicle and when she returned, her wallet, along with credit cards and approximately $40 in cash, were missing.

At 12:29 p.m. Aug. 24, in the 1700 block of Discovery Road, a caller reported that he had returned to his vehicle to find that the window had been broken and tools and other items were missing.

At 4:37 p.m. Aug. 24, police received a report that a donation box for homemade facial coverings was taken from a table left out in the 1300 block of Ninth Street.

The caller told police that since mid-July the masks had been out on display, with the donation box glued to the table. The box and an estimated $200 were nowhere to be found.

At 3:39 p.m. Aug. 25, three Black Lives Matter signs were taken from the front of a church in the 2300 block of San Juan Avenue. The signs were valued at $90.

At 4:55 p.m. Aug. 25, police responded to a reported assault in the 100 block of Tyler Street.

The wife of the victim called the police after she said her husband was punched in the face by a homeless man. When police arrived, the suspect — described as an adult male — had fled the scene. Witnesses told police the man had been yelling and kicking furniture and when the victim approached him, the suspect threatened him.

When the victim attempted to call police, the man punched him in the face, took his cell phone and threw it into the water. The suspect was later arrested and taken to jail.

At 3:39 p.m. Aug. 27, a driver called to report that their license plates had been stolen and replaced with Oregon plates while they were in Portland.

At 12:58 p.m. Aug. 28, the windows of a garage in the 2500 block of Thomas Street were broken and several generators were taken. Police believe that the value of the items stolen exceeds $1,000.

At 1:37 p.m. Aug. 29, an adult male was reportedly walking in the roadway around the 400 block of Sims Way, causing vehicles to swerve out of the way.

Police received several calls about the individual — who is known to police — who was reportedly bouncing a football as he was walking.

Police contacted the individual and determined that he was intoxicated. The responding officer convinced the man to leave the roadway, but remained nearby to observe the situation.

The officer contacted the individual again when he was observed lying down in the roadway, and arrested the man. In the process of being arrested, the suspect allegedly kicked the door of the officer’s vehicle, injuring the officer’s wrist.

According to police at the time of the arrest, the suspect had a BAC of 0.35. The man was booked into jail for disorderly conduct and assault in the third degree.

At 12:55 a.m. Aug. 30, an officer in the 500 block of Logan Street observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was clocked at 66 mph as it traveled through the 30 mph speed zone.

While pursuing the vehicle, the officer reportedly observed signs of impairment by the driver and, once stopped, the driver confirmed that he had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. The subject was arrested.

At 7:39 p.m. Aug. 30, in the 300 block of 47th Street, an “honor system” jar for a local produce stand was stolen.

It is unknown just how much was in the jar at the time of the theft and an estimated $20 to $30 in costs to fix the damage from the theft.
