The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 156 calls between Friday, July 29, and Thursday, Aug. 4. Below are selected reports.

At noon Friday, July 29, a caller in the 800 block of Water Street reported that a nearby business had been vandalized. The caller stated that a couple of the store’s back windows had been broken last night and the bathroom had been tagged with graffiti. Officers arrived at the business and took photos.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29 in the 1200 block of Lawrence Street, a caller said road signs had been tagged with a black marker. The police are familiar with the potential suspect, who was arrested for an unrelated crime and was carrying a black marker at the time of their arrest.

At 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, a passerby in the 500 block of Sheridan Street reported that a dog had been left in a hot vehicle with the windows rolled up. The reporting party also said the dog appeared to be panting. An officer checked on the animal, noting that the vehicle had a window down and the dog appeared to be fine. The reporting party later reached into the rolled-down window and unlocked the vehicle — causing its alarm to go off — and the dog’s owner came out from a nearby building. An officer arrived and spoke with both people. The officer warned the passerby that they’d committed a crime by entering the locked vehicle, and advised them to not do that again. The owner didn’t want to press charges and both parties went their own ways.

At 9 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the 500 block of Hendricks Street, police were alerted to an assault after a man threw his beer at another person, striking them in the chest.

A witness to the assault said the man then started beating on a nearby home with his fists. Officers arrived and took a statement from a witness, then located the beer-thrower. He was placed under arrest for assault and booked into jail.

At 1 a.m. Saturday, July 30, a transient woman in the 400 block of Sims Way told police that another transient had stolen her cell phone. When she’d confronted the person about the stolen phone, they assaulted her and knocked her to the ground. Officers located the thief and placed them in custody for potential assault. The officers also obtained a statement from a witness of the assault.

At 2:15 a.m. Sunday, July 31, an assault had occurred in the 2500 block of Washington Street after a fight broke out at Boat Haven Marina. According to a caller, around 40 individuals were involved, and only 12 were still on the scene. The fighters appeared to be teenagers, and the caller added that one of them was lying on the ground and it was unknown how hurt they were. Officers arrived and attempted to gather information, but nobody involved wanted to cooperate. The officers called off the aid car, considering nobody appeared to be injured. The fighters had come from a party to the marina, and they decided to leave the area. The only things left behind were a broken beer bottle and spilled food.
