The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 124 calls between Friday, Feb. 10, and Thursday, Feb. 16. Below are selected reports.

At 11:25 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, a suspicious man was reported in the 900 block of Tyler Street and was digging in a yard with a shovel.

The man appeared to be in his 20s, and the reporting party told law enforcement the man was there the night before, as well.

Officers spoke to the man, who said he had permission to work there with his metal detector and shovel. Officers followed up with the property owner, who said the man had the green light to be there.

At 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, a landlord and tenant dispute in the 400 block of 26th Street was reported to law enforcement.

The landlord told the tenant, “You’ll meet your maker,” and other threats were sent between both parties. The tenant was advised to move out, if possible.

At 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the 1000 block of 10th Street, a woman was reported after setting up shop in a local recovery center’s elevator.

The woman’s personal possessions were scattered around the elevator, and officers spoke with her. She was told she needed to grab her items and go. The officers spoke with a recovery center to assist with the situation.

At 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, a mental health patient at the hospital in the 800 block of Sheridan Street was reported after leaving the facility on foot in his hospital gown.

Security footage showed him heading toward a grocery store nearby, and officers contacted the man at the store’s parking lot. The local fire department was called as well to assist. The man was transported back to the hospital. Later in the day, around 6:30 p.m., the man left the hospital again and headed toward the same store. He was seen getting into a car and appeared to have left Port Townsend.

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, a fraud attempt was reported by a store manager in the 1400 block of West Sims Way.

Someone had called the business while masquerading as the store owner, telling an employee to empty the cash out of the register, deposit it in an ATM, then purchase Bitcoin.

An officer advised the store manager it appeared to be a fraudulent attempt, and the culprit could be someone familiar with the business.

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the 1800 block of Water Street, someone broke into a resident’s home and took a cart from the storage area. The cart was a Gorilla-brand utility cart, and the suspect is unknown.
