The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 131 calls between Friday, June 3, and Thursday, June 9.  Below are selected reports.

At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 7,
officers in the 1300 block of West Sims Way responded to an alleged threat made toward a bank in the area.

A man called the bank, and after a verbal argument with a bank employee, he threatened to bring a shotgun into the business. The man was contacted later by police and said he had no recollection of saying that, and that what he said may have been taken out of context. The bank eventually decided that they would close his accounts and request for him to not return to the property. The man was issued a trespass admonishment.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, an employee in the 400 block of Kearney Street reported to police that a visitor in their store had previously been issued a trespass admonishment. Officers arrived on the scene, but the individual had already left. The situation is being further investigated.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, police received multiple calls about a man near the Hastings Avenue and Sherman Street intersection, who appeared to be acting strange. Reports said the man was stopping at mailboxes and looking into them, kneeling to look at the base of the mailboxes, walking in and out of the roadway, and talking to himself.

Police contacted the man, who was irate with officers. The man appeared to be suffering from mental health issues and claimed he wasn’t messing with the mail.

He told officers he was a former mail carrier, then started speaking gibberish. No crime had occurred and the officers left.

At 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 8,
a caller in the 1100 block of Olympic Avenue reported a missing person.

The person, an elderly man with dementia, had gotten out of the house and was missing.

Officers were told of locations the man liked to frequent, and began to search for him. Right as search-and-rescue crews were called in to find the man, someone located him and brought him to the police station.

At 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, police were called to Boat Haven Marina to investigate an unwanted person. A woman was in the women’s restroom on the premises and refused to leave. Officers arrived at the marina, located the woman and transported her back to her campsite.

At 12:45 a.m. Thursday, June 9,
multiple reports were made on Monroe Street, Washington Street, and Clay Street after residents told police they heard loud explosions coming from those areas. Officers were unable to locate the source of the noise.

At 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9,
a resident near the P Street and Fir Street intersection reported a downed power line on the roadway. After arriving in the area, officers discovered the downed cable was a telecommunication line. The Jefferson County Public Utility District was contacted and took over the situation.

At 4:15 p.m. Thursday, June 9,
a caller in the 400 block of Sims Way told police that their handicap placard had been left inside the car they just sold, and that the new owner had been using the permit and wouldn’t give it back. Officers spoke with the vehicle’s new owner who agreed to return the placard to its rightful owner.

At 11:15 p.m. Thursday, June 9, a caller in the 2000 block of Washington Street reported an unwanted person at their hotel room. The caller’s friend had reportedly taken too many magic mushrooms and was having a bad trip, and the caller wanted them to leave. Officers were delayed in response due to staffing issues, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office took the call.
