Port Townsend police received a total 235 calls for service between Monday, July 19 and Sunday, July 25. Below are selected reports.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, July 22, the owner of a café in the 900 block of Washington Street reported a burglary had occurred overnight. The owner arrived in the morning and noticed a cash register was missing, locks had been cut and a large quantity of meat, fowl and buttercream had been removed from the premises.

The owner estimated the burglary had occurred some time between 10:30 p.m. the night previous and 9 a.m. that day. The owner suspected a current or past employee may have been involved in the incident, adding that it was likely “an inside job.”

In total about $2,000 worth of damage and stolen goods were reported by the business. Police are reviewing surveillance camera video from a nearby shop.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, a shopkeeper in the 800 block of Water Street alerted police to an attempted shoplifting after she discovered a man attempting to leave the store with a merchandise tag hanging out of his jeans.

The shopkeeper stopped the man and asked him to remove the item from his pocket; the man produced a small broken porcelain doll which he said he hadn’t any money to pay for. While removing the doll, the man produced other items which the caller believed had been stolen from other stores in the area.

At 9:45 p.m. Saturday, July 24, police were alerted to a noisy party in the 1500 block of 14th Street. An officer noted a moderately active party that was barely audible from the roadway.

The officer continued to monitor the situation until the guests departed shortly thereafter.
