The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 127 calls between Friday, April 15, and Friday, April 21.  Below are selected reports.

At 1 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, a caller in the 400 block of 49th Street reported a suspicious vehicle at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

A small, red car was seen there the night before revving its engine, and the same car was spotted again.

Officers came to the scene and contacted the driver. He told officers that he was out of gas, even though his fuel tank had plenty of fuel. The man was trespassed from the area, and officers told him that he would be ticketed for trespassing if it happened again. The man is known to police as a prowler, and a wide variety of car parts were seen in his vehicle.

At 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the 600 block of Water Street, a homeless woman was seen sleeping in a nearby bathroom. The reporting party noted that the woman’s stuff was strewn around the bathroom, and they attempted to wake her up from her slumber. Officers came to the area and contacted the woman. She had already gathered her items and was moving along. Officers gave her a seven-day trespass admonishment.

At 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, a woman in the 600 block of Water Street had passed out in a lobby. The woman (a different person from the previous report) walked away from the area before officers arrived.

At 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, a man in the 500 block of Sheridan Street was seen harassing customers at a store on the block.

He was disturbing customers, throwing merchandise around, and yelling and cursing during his tirade.

The man — in his mid 50s — then went outside the store and started banging on machines outside the business.

Officers came to the store and talked with an employee before contacting the man. He was issued a trespass admonishment. The man is believed to have mental health issues.

At 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, a caller in the 400 block of Lawrence Street told police that she had been scammed out of thousands of dollars worth of gift cards.

She had received a phone call from someone claiming they were with Amazon, and had given them her Social Security number. After contacting her bank and freezing her credit cards, the woman learned that she had fallen victim to a phishing scam call.

At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in the 800 block of Hancock Street, a 78-year-old woman had reportedly passed away in her home.

The woman’s caregiver found her on the ground and not breathing. No foul play was suspected.

At 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, a welfare check was requested for a man in the 2200 block of Sims Way. He was seen resting in a sleeping bag but hadn’t moved in a long while.

An officer and police navigator arrived in the area and contacted the man. He was alert but complaining of chest pain and weakness. He told police that he’d arrived in Port Townsend sometime the night before on a bus and was sick with chest pain and couldn’t walk. Police requested aid for the man, and he was transported to the hospital shortly after.

At 2:20 p.m. Friday, April 21, a shoplifter in the 400 block of Sims Way was reported to police by a store employee.

The employee said they had video footage of the shoplifter taking multiple items from the business, and said they were likely walking away to the bus stop.

The crime is under investigation as authorities review the video footage and attempt to identify the shoplifting suspect.
