The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 149 calls between Friday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 22. Below are selected reports.

At 3:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 in the 200 block of Polk Street, a passerby reported seeing a hit-and-run involving a dark green pickup truck and a parked vehicle.

The passerby told police that they witnessed the truck hit the back of a hatchback car, with the driver stopping to look at the damage before driving away.

The parked hatchback received a dent on the back end. An officer spoke with a second witness who told them he was out back folding boxes when the hit-and-run occurred, and recognized the identity of the truck driver, who promised to leave a note on the damaged vehicle.

He told the officer the driver’s name, also mentioning that she was a coworker of his. Later on, the hit-and-run was shared on social media with someone posting a picture of their hatchback.

The suspected truck driver responded on social media and was being verbally aggressive with others, calling them a bunch of liars. Witnesses also noted that the woman had two dogs in her truck when the crime occurred, and those same two canines were noted on her profile picture. The woman was advised to reach out to the police.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, a noise complaint was made in the 1600 block of Ninth Street.

The resident said the upstairs neighbors had moved in last month with little kids who run around all the time and make noise in the evening. The little girl is around 5. The resident hadn’t contacted the parents or landlord, and said the noise was beyond the normal output of a child of her age, adding that the caller wanted the police to come out and listen to the noise.

At 7:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, a caller with a social services organization in the 400 block of Sims Way told police that she was concerned for her safety and was afraid to walk over to another location where she could stay for the night. The woman is transient. Officers drove to her location and provided a courtesy ride to the other location, but she was not accepted to sleep there for the night. Another organization called to offer assistance and the officers gave her a ride there. She was provided assistance and a place to stay.

At 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 in the 400 block of Sims Way, a caller reported a man yelling and possible fighting near Kah Tai Lagoon.

An officer arrived, parked, and continued on foot to investigate. Two men were located in the park, but neither man claimed to be involved in any fights. There were no signs of violence between the two and the officer didn’t find anyone else there.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, suspicious activity was reported in the 800 block of Hancock Street. A woman had woken up in her apartment and saw a man staring at her through her window with his face pressed against the glass.

He was described as being in his 50s and wearing a baseball cap. Officers contacted the woman and told her to call 911 if the man returned.

At 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Howard Street and Discovery Road intersection, a passerby informed police of a car partially blocking the road with two people inside the vehicle.

An officer drove to the intersection and saw a man and woman whose car appeared to have broken down. The officer assisted them in jump-starting their car.
