Port Townsend photographer takes first at CVG Show

Brian Goodman of Port Townsend was the first-place winner in the Photo/Digital Arts category of the 2021 CVG Show.

The exhibition, held annually, is presented by Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton.

The works of 20 artists from Port Townsend, Port Ludlow, Chimacum and Nordland were chosen to be included in this year’s show.

Other local artists in the 2021 CVG Show were Erica Iseminger, Chimacum; Roger Travis, Nordland; Kevin Imper, Port Ludlow; and from Port Townsend, Sandra Arnold, Peter Bonyun, Philip Carrico, Pat Herkal, Joyce Hester, Harold Nelson, Mitchel Osborne, Scott Pascoe, Kim Simonelli, Suzzanne Stangel, Linda Tilley, Fred Videon, Trevor Warren, Richard Jesse Watson, Margaret Woodcock, and Stephen Yates.

The juror for the competition was Michael D’Alessandro, the former executive director of Northwind Arts Center who is now exhibits director for Northwind Art.

D’Alessandro noted that the task of choosing the winners was complicated by the fact that every artwork in the show was, in his judgment, worthy of the designation “Best of Show.”

Other local winners included Travis in the Two Dimensional Arts category (third place, for “Piano12); Suzzanne Stangel in the Three Dimensional Arts category (third place, for “Faith”); Hester, who won a purchase prize in the competition for “Seaside Sentry”; and Osborne, who earned an honorable mention for “Split Screen.”

The award winners for the 2021 CVG Show were presented in a virtual ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 23 to an online audience of artists, sponsors and other guests.

All 135 artworks accepted into the show will stay on display at the Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton through Feb. 26.

The gallery is at 331 Pacific Ave. and is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
