Member-owners of the Port Townsend Food Co-op are poised to elect four new board members to its Board of Directors this month.
The Board is tasked with governing the Co-op, including but not limited to hiring management, establishing compensation for the Board and assuring that the co-op’s mission is articulated and carried out, according to their bylaws. Board members are also tasked with adopting new policies and making decisions in accordance with those bylaws.
Eleven candidates are vying for the seats, with members voting for up to four candidates. Online or in-person ballots are due by April 10.
Candidates include Liz Arp, Dena Bugel-Shunra, Alicia Dominguez, Donna Hengeveld, Seth Hunt, Ocean Mason, Thea O’Dell, Ken Rogers, Hank Walker, Suzanne Wilson and Karla Youngblood.
The four candidates with the most votes will be elected to the Board.
Elections to the Board occur annually, with elected directors serving a staggered term of one to three years, so a portion of the Board is elected each year. No director may serve more than three consecutive terms.
The Co-op hosted a meet-and-greet event with the candidates at the Port Townsend Community Center on March 26. Candidate bios and responses to a Q&A can be found on the Co-op’s website.
Member-owners should have received an email ballot on March 27 but can also vote in person at the Co-op during business hours until April 10 at 5p.m.
