UPDATE | Port Townsend ferry down due to mechanical issues

Posted

The Port Townsend/Coupeville ferry route will remain out of service for the rest of the day on Wednesday, Aug. 10 due to unscheduled maintenance.

The M/V Chetzemoka will replace the M/V Salish and resume service at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11.

The route was first declared out of service until further notice due to mechanical issues with the M/V Salish on Tuesday, before a later announcement was made saying the ferry would return to service by mid-afternoon Wednesday.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has been plagued by cancellations due to aging equipment and staff shortages.

Reservation holders were advised by the Washington State Department of Transportation to take alternate routes including Edmonds/Kingston and Mukilteo/Clinton.

No-show fees were waived for both days.
