Port Townsend art institutions to host first joint fundraising effort

Northwind Arts Center and Port Townsend School of the Arts, which recently announced their imminent merger to a new, combined nonprofit to be called Northwind Art, will host their inaugural joint fundraising event starting Monday, Nov. 23.

“Weave It Together” will feature a silent and live auction of original works of art, jewelry, unique gift baskets, and a lively “Raise the Paddle.”

The merger, officials said, was necessary because devastating economic impact of the coronavirus on both Northwind Arts Center and Port Townsend School of the Arts.

“This pandemic shone a light on how vital and vibrant the arts are here and how dependent we are on them. And the importance of our work to ensure their survival,” said Teresa Verraes, executive director of Northwind Art. 

Bidding for the silent auction opens Monday, Nov. 23. 

The live virtual event, to be held Sunday, Dec. 6, is free to attend. 

A $75 “VIP” ticket includes a unique hand-crafted wine tote created by a local artist complete with a bottle of sparkling wine.
