Port Ludlow Art League names jeweler, artist for September

The Port Ludlow Art League has selected David Layton is the the league’s Artist of the Month for September.

Nancy Aikman has earned acknowledgement as the group’s Jeweler of the Month.

Layton was inspired by his father’s life-long interests in photography and graphic design. He has since combined a career in architecture with photographic pursuits ranging from wildlife to portraits and street photography.

His passion is best summarized by fellow photographer Art Wolfe’s admonition: “Go where everyone else goes but try to see the world differently.” His photographs have been exhibited in the Edmonds Studio Tour and in several exhibits at the Knoll’s Studio in Poulsbo.

Layton’s September exhibit at Sound Community Bank in Port Ludlow will showcase his digital collages; artistic interpretations of photography designed to engage viewers through a sense of mystery and place.

His artwork can also been seen in September online at portludlowart.org.

Following a lifelong career as an accountant, Aikman found herself drawn to a new passion: the world of beads and cabochons.

Cabochons are natural gemstones that have been shaped and polished rather than faceted, and they are typically flat on one side and domed on the other.

Using only high quality, natural elements, Aikman embellishes the cabochons with glass and semi-precious stones. She also makes bracelets, earrings, and necklaces using glass, natural stones, and sterling silver.

Aikman’s jewelry can also be viewed online at portludlowart.org.and in person at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery and at Sound Community Bank. The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. every Thursday and Friday.
