The Port Townsend Police Department is seeking help from the public about an incident in Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park that was reported Monday, Sept. 25.

A man reported that he had been assaulted the night before while walking on a trail in the park, according to Port Townsend Police Chief Mike Evans.

The man said he was near the Haines Place Park and Ride parking lot by Landes Street when two men, wearing dark clothes and ski masks, shoved him from behind and forced him to the ground. He said he had not seen the men in the area prior to being assaulted.

While he was on the ground, the man said, one of the men struck him in the face while the other attempted to take his backpack, which was strapped to him, he told officers. It was then that the two men got into a car and left the area.

One of the men was reported to be about 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a dark mask; plaid, long-sleeve flannel shirt; old, dirty blue jeans; and yellow work-style boots. He had two large rings on his right hand. The other man was reported to be approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a dark ski mask, plain black or dark hoodie, dirty blue jeans and brown work boots.

The car in which the subjects left was described as an older-model, dark-colored, four-door Honda or Toyota sedan. It was also noted that the vehicle was abnormally loud when it accelerated.
