A Brinnon woman was hurt in a three-car hit-and-run pileup Friday night on Highway 20 just north of the U-Haul business.

A 37-year-old Poulsbo man is being investigated for his part in the crash, and charges are pending, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash was reported at 5:40 p.m. Oct. 9, and the highway was shut down to one lane as cars involved in the crash blocked the southbound lane.

The three vehicles were traveling on the highway south of Port Townsend, according to the State Patrol, when a 1993 Nissan Maxima, driven by a 56-year-old Brinnon woman, and a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven by a 26-year-old Port Orchard man, slowed for traffic ahead.

The Poulsbo man, driving a 2012 Ford Focus, came up behind the two vehicles and struck the pickup, which then hit the Nissan in front of it.

The Poulsbo man then fled from the crash scene on foot.

A K9 unit from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office was brought in to find the Poulsbo man, but was unsuccessful.

The Brinnon woman was taken by an aid car to Jefferson Healthcare Medical Center in Port Townsend as a precautionary measure as she appeared injured, according to the State Patrol.

A passenger in the woman’s car, a 24-year-old Port Angeles woman, was not injured in the collision.

The Ford Focus sustained major front-end damage and was totaled. It was towed from the scene by All City Auto Body & Towing and taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office vehicle storage lot.

The other vehicles were damaged but could be driven from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
