The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 256 calls for service between July 7 and July 13, 2017, including 2 calls about disturbances, 3 incidents of harassment, 3 reports of thefts, 2 calls about threats and 9 requests for welfare checks. Officers made 59 traffic stops.

The following, provided by the department, were among the incidents reported:

A restaurant on Water Street reported at 6:30 p.m., July 7 that a man had been bothering employees and customers for several days in a row, cutting in front of others in line, asking for food and begging. The man was issued a ban from the business for one year.

Police responded to the Port of Port Townsend marina at 4:15 p.m. on July 8 after one boat hit another moored at the dock. The incident was witnessed by a port office worker. A boating collision report was given to the victim.

A man was heard yelling for help at the Port of Port Townsend marina at about 11:15 p.m., July 8. The man was running up and down the dock, attempting to board a boat that was not his. He resisted officers who were trying to restrain him. Medics on the scene sedated the man and transported him to Jefferson Healthcare.

Officers responded to a residence on Hill Street at 2:16 a.m. on July 9 after a woman reported that a man had pushed her against a wall and then began hitting things in the garage. Police were told there had been no history of violence between the two individuals; however, both had been drinking. The man was detained and transported to Jefferson Healthcare for evaluation before being taken to jail.

Officers were called to a store at 12:40 p.m., July 9 after a man in a wheelchair was reported to be yelling at customers and employees and knocking merchandise off the shelves. The man said he had accidentally knocked over a display of beer. He was argumentative and said he had not done anything wrong. He was issued a ban from the store.

At 5:30 p.m. on July 9, a man was issued a one-night ban from the Penny Saver store for yelling at customers and employees. The behavior was brought on by some confusion over buying food with a food-stamp card. The man left the store without incident.

At 6:50 p.m. on July 10, police were called to a store on Sims Way, where a man in wheelchair was bothering store employees, stopping cars and begging for money. The man, who was argumentative and kept changing the subject, had previously been banned from the store, including the parking lot. Police explained the property boundaries to the man.

An officer patrolling an area on Kearney Street at 9:24 p.m. on July 11 stopped a motorist driving a vehicle with expired tags. The driver failed to provide valid insurance information and was issued an infraction for both offenses.

At 3 p.m. on July 11, a police officer took a report from a person who stated he had received a phone call informing him that an arrest warrant had been issued for him and that his property was being monitored. The reporting party said he just wanted to notify police of the call. The officer said others had reported receiving similar scam calls and advised the man to ignore such calls.

Officers responded to an address off Sheridan Street at 10:45 p.m. on July 12 after a caller reported a neighbor playing loud music. The music was turned down while officers were on the scene, but the reporting party contacted police again to say the neighbor was turning the music volume up and down. On July 13, the reporting party went to the police department, where he expressed frustration about the ongoing issue with his neighbor and the loud music.

At 2:30 p.m. on July 13, police responded to the city library on Lawrence Street, where a man had tried to force the reporting party to let him walk her to her car. He was also seen bothering a juvenile in the area.
