Port Townsend Police Department officers responded to 251 calls between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21. Among those calls were 2 reports of burglaries, 1 noise complaint, 9 issues regarding property and 4 reports of thefts. Officers made 104 traffic stops.

An officer responded to a parking complaint on Sept. 15 on Quincy Street where a vehicle was parked in a fire lane that was clearly marked. A notice of infraction was issued.

A person contacted the police department at 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 15 to report “the white-sign-board, free-speech guy” exceeding his square footage on Water Street. The caller requested a phone call from police to discuss the city ordinance that covers such issues and also asked police to respond to the scene to bring the man with the sign in compliance with code enforcement. When officers arrived on scene, no violation was found.

At 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 15, officers responded to the dock at Quincy and Water streets where a person was seen hitting someone over the head with a bottle. The suspect allegedly hit the victim with a bottle of alcohol and kicked her twice. After a search of the area, police were unable to locate the suspect.

At 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, officers responded to a business on Water Street where a man had been told he would no longer be served alcohol and he had left the bar. When the subject got outside, he began kicking the reporting party’s vehicle. Police were unable to locate the subject in the area or at his last known address.

At 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 16, a man was arrested near the Port of Port Townsend for doing doughnuts in the parking lot and on suspicion of DUI. The suspect was taken to Jefferson Healthcare for evaluation, then transported to jail. Police contacted Port of Port Townsend staff for estimates on the damages done to the freshly laid gravel and were told a report would be sent to the police department.

An officer responded at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 17 to a traffic collision on Monroe Street in which one vehicle had backed into another while attempting to park. The driver of the vehicle attempting to park had no insurance, officers learned, and was issued a notice of infraction.

At 8 p.m. on Sept. 17, a man was observed on a surveillance camera trespassing at a medical office on Hendricks Street. He was arrested and transported to jail.

A resident on Willow Street called police at 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 17 to report her house had been broken into. She said a laptop and backpack containing other computer equipment had been taken. No windows had been broken, and it did not appear that any doors had been forced open. She said many items had been taken and she would compile a list and email it to the police department.

Police stopped a vehicle on Discovery Road at 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 for traveling 37 mph in a 25-mph construction zone. The driver, who had received a warning the previous week for speeding and having no registration in the vehicle, was issued a notice of infraction.

A driver was stopped on Sims Way and Kearney Street at 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 21 for driving 30 mph in a 20-mph zone. He was arrested for DUI, taken to Jefferson Healthcare for an evaluation and transported to jail.
