Port Townsend police received a total 235 calls for service between Monday, July 19 and Sunday, July 25. Below are selected reports.
At 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, a good Samaritan turned in a silver wedding ring to the Port Townsend Police Department. The recoverer of the ring said it had been found approximately three months ago at Cherry Street Park.
The department took possession of the ring for safe-keeping and anyone who wishes to retrieve it should call the department with a description of the ring.
At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, a woman called police to the W Street and Cherry Street intersection for a report of shots fired. She said it has been an ongoing issue for several years and she’s become concerned that someone in the area was shooting deer.
The woman told police that she hadn’t heard any shots for at least two months before their most recent return. An officer patrolled the area but was unable to locate the source of the reported shots.
At 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, police received a report from the owner of a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Taylor Street.
The owner said he had noticed his vehicle was missing while he was at work and went out for a break. The caller described his car as a white Honda Accord which was paid off. The caller added that the car had a half-tank of gas and he’d left the keys inside when he went in to work.
The vehicle was located 4 minutes after the initial report near 14th Street and McPherson Street.
Upon recovery, officers noted that the vehicle had apparently been involved in a collision. Police have no suspects at this time and the vehicle was returned to the owner.
At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, a caller reported that one of her children had been followed home by a man in his 30s with a slender build, short hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and baggy blue jeans.
The woman said, according to her child, the man had been acting suspicious. The man did not attempt to make contact with the group of children as they were walking in the 1400 block of Olympic Avenue.
