Port Townsend police received 125 total calls for service between Monday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 10. Below are selected reports.

At 7:32 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, a caller at a business in the 1500 block of Sims Way said tools had been stolen after a building at the business had been entered.

The owner of the business told police that things had been tossed around and it appeared that the burglars had accessed the building through a hole in a wall from a prior break-in. Many tools were reported missing but a full inventory is forthcoming. Police estimated the value of the stolen tools at $5,000.

Officers were later told several vehicle keys were missing from the business and a Toyota Camry was no longer onsite.

At 9:52 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, a caller in the 4900 block of Willamette Street reported a burglary after someone entered her home while she was out for a walk.

The owner told police that she had left her door unlocked while she was away.

Taken from the residence was a $100 check and a large leather-bound copy of the book “Alice in Wonderland.” Police estimated the value of the stolen goods at $350.

The woman told police that she would be locking her door in the future.

At 2:16 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, police received a report of a burglary in the 2100 block of Renee Place. The caretaker of the residence said they noticed someone had been in the house during a checkup.

The caretaker told police that items had been taken, but didn’t know what exactly was missing.

Police discovered what appeared to be blood left at the scene, left by the suspect in the process of entering the home.

Officers contacted a man known to them who had an injury consistent with the one likely sustained by the burglar. The incident remains under investigation.

At 2:31 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, police received a report of two women attempting to break into a business at the intersection of Sherman Street and Sims Way.

The caller reported seeing the pair lifting each other up to look into the windows of the business and taking pictures of the inside. An officer arrived at the scene and spoke with the two women. Both admitted to being there but said they were just taking pictures of artwork inside the business. The two showed the responding officer photos of the artwork. Police said it did not appear that the two were up to anything nefarious.

At 6:17 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, police responded to a call in the 200 block of Monroe Street for a report of a man refusing to leave the area of a homeless shelter and was yelling at the reporting party.

Officers made contact with the man and he acknowledged that he had been rude but the argument was strictly verbal. The man apologized for making a scene and was not trespassed from the location.

At 1:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, a caller in the 600 block of Water Street reported the theft of a battery used to power a sprayer unit used in COVID sanitation.

The value of the battery was estimated at $99. Police have no suspects.

At 2:41 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, police were called to a cannabis retailer in the 2400 block of Sims Way for a report of a fraudulent $50 bill. The employee said the bill had been received on Sunday. Video of the transaction is currently being reviewed but a subject has not yet been identified. The note passed to the bud-tender clearly stated that it was for motion picture use only.

At 11:46 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, a caller in the 2100 block of 14th Street reported a burglary sometime over the previous night.

The man told police that an unknown person entered his vehicle and took a subwoofer and speakers. Police have no suspects.

At 1:26 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, officers were alerted to an unwanted person aggressively panhandling at the corner of a business in the 400 block of Kearney Street. According to the caller, the individual was yelling at customers and using profanity. The panhandler at one point reportedly called someone a Nazi, followed by other unprintable expletives. Arriving officers found several subjects panhandling at the business and were unable to determine which one had been harassing the customers.

At 4:39 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, police were alerted to a theft in the 700 block of Landis Lane after a homeowner said his solar panel had been removed from a fence at the property sometime overnight.

At 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, a caller in the 100 block of 25th Street reported seeing flashlights in her back yard. This was the second occurrence of suspicious behavior at the property; the first occurred a few days prior. An officer arrived quickly at the scene but did not locate anyone. The officer gave the homeowner suggestions on how to protect their home, including adding some lights to her back yard.
