The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 203 calls for service between Feb. 23 and March 1, including 3 reports of threats, 1 incident of harassment, 11 general alarm calls and 3 reports of trespassing. In addition, officers made 72 traffic stops.

The following are among the calls to which officers responded:

At 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 24, police stopped a driver who was traveling on Sims Way at 41 mph in a 30-mph speed zone. The driver had only a learner’s permit, and there was no licensed driver in the vehicle. The driver told police he thought he only had to have a licensed driver in the car for three months after getting his learner’s permit, but admitted that he had been driving without a licensed driver since he had been issued his permit. A notice of infraction was issued to the driver.

Officers arrested a man for driving with a suspended license and being in possession of a controlled substance at 10:10 p.m., Feb. 24. He was transported to jail.

At 11:57 p.m. on Feb. 24, officers arrested a man on 10th Street on suspicion of driving under the influence and not having a valid license. He was transported to jail.

A report was filed with police at 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 26 regarding kids flying a drone over a home and into its backyard. The drone appears to have landed in the reporting party’s backyard multiple times, leaving tracks approximately 20 feet long. Items such as Frisbees and balls had also landed in the backyard. The reporting party said complaints had been made to the children’s mother, but without resolution. The resident said she simply wants the drones to stop and to have the two boys stop looking through the fence. Police said they would speak with the mother of the boys involved.

The owner of a business on Sims Way contacted police at 4:20 p.m., Feb. 26 to ask officers to check an area near the Lighthouse Center where transients have been camping on the beach. The reporting party said there had been several break-ins in the area and suspected those incidents could be related to nearby campers.

Police responded to an area on Water Street at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 after a rockslide had closed off the southbound lane. Officers were able to remove the largest pieces of debris from the roadway and used cones to cordon off the area until the city’s roads department could finish cleaning up the street. It was the second time debris had covered the road that night.

Port Townsend Police Chief Michael Evans has noted that internet scams have been on the rise in Port Townsend as well as across the country.
