Citizen reports car theft then remembers where they parked

Total calls April 20 through 26: 178 including 38 traffic stops. Note: Calls such as domestic violence, suicides etc. are left out of the call log as to not retraumatize victims and loved ones.

April 20: Officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the Port District. Officers arrived to find a vehicle with the doors wide open and nobody around. Officers were able to get in contact with the owner, who was in process of loading his fishing boat with groceries for an upcoming trip and had left the truck unattended.

April 21: Officers responded to a fraud call at a local bank. The responding officer was able to determine that a citizen was in fact scammed out of a large sum of money. The investigation into the fraud is ongoing. PTPD advises all citizens to be very cautious about giving out any personal information over the phone, and if anyone has concerns about suspicious calls from financial institutions to reach out to law enforcement prior to giving away personal information or turning over funds.

April 22: Officers responded to an early morning disturbance at a local apartment complex. Officer spoke with a gentleman who appeared to be in crisis, and successfully de-escalated him.

April 23: Officers responded to a robbery. Officers met with the victim and based on their statements and witness statements determined there was probable cause to arrest a suspect for Robbery and Assault in the 2nd Degree. The victim then stated that they did not wish to pursue charges or assist in prosecution of the suspect.

•Officers responded to a disturbance at a local establishment. Upon their arrival they met with a gentleman they are very familiar with. The business decided that they wanted the gentleman trespassed, and he was informed of their decision. He was advised that if he returned to the business, he would be subject to arrest.

April 24: Officers responded to a robbery. Based on their investigation, they established probable cause and arrested a suspect, who was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

•Officers responded to a trespassing call at a local establishment. When they arrived, they observed that a gentleman they had trespassed from the business the previous day had returned. The gentleman was taken into custody and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

April 25: Officers conducted a total of 15 traffic stops. 

•Officers responded to a disorderly conduct call, which turned into a welfare check. The subject of the call was offered resources.

April 26: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a simple traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle claimed to be a “Sovereign Citizen” and refused to provide any sort of identification to the officer conducting the stop. The driver was educated about the requirements of operating a motor vehicle in the state of Washington and chose to provide the necessary information to the officer instead of going to jail.

•Officers responded to a report of an auto theft. A short time later, it was determined that this was a case of “Forgot Where I Parked."
