The Port Townsend Police Department responded to a total of 179 calls from March 6-13. Officers conducted 31 traffic stops and made one DUI arrest. Calls such as domestic violence and suicides are left out of the call log, so as to not retraumatize victims and loved ones.

March 7: A bicycle was thrown into the pond at San Juan Avenue and Cedar Street. City Parks will address this issue.

• A person was playing fetch with their dog off-leash, and the dog was acting aggressively towards other people. The owner was warned about keeping the dog leashed, unless on private property with the owners’ permission, or at the dog park.

March 8: A guest overstayed at a local hotel. Officers provided a courteous transport for them to get back to their family home. 

• Shoplifting was committed at a local retail center, concealing bags of jewelry. The store requested the person be trespassed. 

March 9: A report of an overdue person at about 1 a.m. The subject was located by law enforcement and determined to be out having fun with family. They contacted their significant other. 

• A heavily intoxicated woman was yelling at the manager of an area apartment complex, and was trespassed. 

March 10: The theft of a motor vehicle took place in the 2100 block of Haines Street. The vehicle was recovered in Kitsap County. This investigation is ongoing, and citizens are encouraged to contact police if they have information.

• A driver lost consciousness driving on Lawrence Street, near Tyler Street, and collided with the curb, causing significant damage to their vehicle. No injuries were reported, and an initial investigation determined the cause to be an unknown medical condition.

March 11: A DUI arrest occurred after a Jefferson County deputy, who recently graduated from a course and earned the designation of a drug recognition expert, identified a person in physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, while the deputy was working a shift in the city. 

March 12: Officers responded to lost earbuds by providing suggestions on how to narrow down the location. The earbuds were determined to be located in a local business. 

March 13: The Water Treatment Plant was vandalized. A vehicle rammed the gate to exit the facility, after driving in through a different open entrance.
