Port Townsend Police Department officers responded to 188 calls between April 3 and April 9, including 3 reports of theft, 1 unwanted person, 7 reports of trespassing and 70 traffic stops. Among the incidents that officers responded to, according to a press release from the city, were:

A man was seen stealing a shovel and destroying a sign on Taylor Street at 7:45 a.m., April 4. He was then seen using the shovel to free a bike from a bike stand. The man was arrested for malicious mischief, third-degree theft and attempted third-degree theft. He appeared to be intoxicated and was taken to Jefferson Healthcare for a medical evaluation before being transported to jail.

A resident called 911 at 2:50 p.m., April 4 to report a person camping in Sather Park near the Adams Street entrance. When police arrived, they found a blue tent all closed up, and debris and trash at the campsite. No one was seen near the tent. The officer took some photographs and left a note instructing the owner to remove the tent from the park.

On April 4, police responded to an incident on Kearney Street, where a man was requesting help with a drinking problem. He had been previously banned from the area because he had been seeking help to stop drinking, so another trespass admonishment was not issued. He was transported to the Jefferson Healthcare by paramedics.

Police were dispatched to Jefferson Healthcare at 7:25 p.m., April 4 to remove an individual who had refused to leave the hospital after smoking and drinking on hospital property. The man previously had gone to the hospital two or three times to get help for alcohol addiction, but refused to follow up and then relapsed. When the officer told the man to leave, he refused. The man was arrested and transported to jail.

A man said he had received a phone call from the PTPD’s main line informing him to pay for an online payday loan that was in arrears. The incident occurred at 12:06 p.m., April 7. The caller said he was “Officer Peterson.” There is no Port Townsend police officer by that name. The man disconnected the call and reported he has never obtained a payday loan. It was determined the call was a “spoofing” attempt.

Officers responded to a business on Water Street at 1:30 p.m. April 7 after receiving complaints that a man was talking to himself and causing a disturbance inside the business. According to the reporting party, the man left the business, went outside and appeared to calm down. He was gone when police arrived.

Officers were requested to stand by at an address on Haines Street at 2:45 p.m.on April 7 while the property manager served the tenant with an eviction notice. Together with the property manager, officers walked through the house, where they found an old dog, but no other persons in the house. The tenant left willingly, and the property manager agreed to take care of the dog.

Police responded to an address on Kearney Street at 3:50 p.m., April 7 after receiving a report that a man who had previously been issued a trespass admonishment was back in the area. The officer reminded the man not to trespass on the property or he would be subject to arrest.

Officers responded on April 7 to an address on Kearney Street where a male subject was outside a business harassing customers. When police arrived, the man was off the property and admitted he had been told to leave. He was issued a one-year trespass admonishment.

On April 8, police arrested a man on Water Street who had been issued a trespass admonishment the previous week for loitering in a park near the ferry dock.

Police were called to an address on Sheridan Street at 7:15 p.m. on April 8 in response to a report that a couple had been arguing and throwing things at one another. The female removed herself from the situation and left. The male appeared to be intoxicated. Neither party was injured, and both claimed they were just arguing.

A call was made to 911 at 8:20 p.m. on April 8 by a person who reported that a man was in the road near the ferry dock, throwing something and yelling. When police arrived, the man was screaming and yelling about a group of people walking in front of him. He appeared intoxicated. He was advised to stay out of traffic and not to block the sidewalk.

At 9:30 p.m. on April 8, police assisted an elderly female near Haines Street. She had no place to go and was trying to find a place to stay for the night. She gratefully accepted an offer to stay the night in the lobby at the Jefferson County Jail.

A man was seen banging on a door on the backside of a building near Tyler Street at 11:40 p.m., April 8. When police arrived, the man had left the premises. Police searched for the man but could not locate him.

A woman was heard screaming near a business on Sims Way at Hancock Street on April 7. Police spoke with both the male and female subjects, who appeared intoxicated and were arguing about which one would drive the pair home. The woman said she took the car keys away from the man; he claimed he took the keys away from her. A cab was summoned and it picked up the couple, who left their car behind, parked.

A woman on E Street called 911 at 6 a.m., April 9 to report someone was on her front porch, knocking on the door and ringing the doorbell. An intoxicated male was found lying on the porch with a facial laceration and blood on his hands. He was unsure of what had occurred. The man had a knife, which was taken from him before he was transported to Jefferson Healthcare by paramedics.

A trespass admonishment was issued to a man on April 9 at 11:05 a.m. for soliciting money from customers at the McDonald’s restaurant on Sims Way. He was also helping himself to soda from the drink dispenser, according to the manager. This was the second time in a week the man was soliciting money at the restaurant. Police issued the man a trespass admonishment.

A woman was reportedly yelling at people at a business near Tyler Street on April 9 at 1:50 p.m. She had been asked to leave, but refused. By the time the police arrived, she had left the area.
