The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 164 calls for service between May 22 and May 25, including 2 incidents of driving while intoxicated, 59 traffic stops and 3 unwanted-person reports. Among the incidents were:

An officer responded to a call from a person who said there was a transient sleeping in the shelter at the Haines Park and Ride May 22. The subject was waiting for the bus to Sequim. He was not causing any problems and was left to catch the bus.

A 12-foot fiberglass rowboat was found abandoned on the beach in front of the Bayview Restaurant at 9:10 a.m. on May 22. A passerby told the officer that a woman had rowed ashore the previous Tuesday and said she was heading to Sequim and left the boat there. It was unknown when she would return. The officer was unable to get a registration number off the bow of the boat because it had been obstructed by old paint.

A person contacted police at 11:50 a.m. on May 22 to report that a sum of money amounting to approximately $1,600 was missing after a recent party at a residence near Fir Street.

At 2:30 p.m. on May 22, an officer was called to a residence on Clay Street where two dogs had been left in a van since 7 a.m. that morning. The dogs did not appear distressed. Two neighbors said the van was parked in the area daily. The officer left a note for the registered owner of the vehicle stating that better accommodations for the dogs need to be considered as the weather gets warmer.

At 6:30 a.m. on May 23, a man called police to say he was getting threats and wanted to turn himself in. He admitted to watching child pornography and said he was coming down off meth. He said there were several people outside his door making explicit threats. He told police he took his last drink the previous night and asked to be transported to the emergency room at Jefferson Healthcare for detox treatment. He gave his computer to police along with permission to search contents. He was transported to the hospital by medics.

A woman who lives near Wilson Street contacted police at 6:30 a.m. on May 23 to report her house had been broken into and a bank book was missing. She stated she had a woman helping her clean her house and believed she might have taken it.

Police were notified at 9:30 a.m. on May 23 about a caller who had made more than 1,000 calls to 911 since March. When the caller’s number is called, a juvenile male can be heard talking in the background. An officer contacted multiple service providers in an attempt to learn the owner of the phone, but was unable to determine which of the carriers the phone was connected to.

At 10:40 a.m. on May 23, a woman contacted police to report receiving numerous text messages from her boyfriend with whom she had recently broken up. She stated the former boyfriend was not taking the break-up well and wanted to know where to get the necessary paperwork for a no-contact order. She was referred to the courthouse and Dove House Advocacy Services.

Police responded to an area near the ferry dock at 8:45 p.m. on May 23 after the reporting party said a woman was at the dock with her dog, refusing to leave. The woman said she was ill and was waiting for a ride to the hospital. Police arranged for transportation.

Police responded at 11:10 p.m. on May 23 to an area near Monroe Street, where two sea lions were found on a dock. One of the sea lions weighed more than 1,000 pounds, according to the officer on the scene.

Police received a call from a resident on Landes Street at 7:55 a.m. on May 24 who said she believed mailboxes in the area had been rifled through. She was unsure if anything had been taken. The officer told the woman many mailboxes in the area had been blown open from the previous night’s storm. She was told to call back if she discovered anything was missing or she saw any suspicious activity.

An officer stopped a vehicle on Discovery Road that had been traveling at 38 mph in a 25-mph zone at 2:55 p.m. on May 24. The driver was issued a citation for speeding as well as a criminal citation for driving without a valid license after the officer learned the man’s license had been suspended in Oregon.

At 5 p.m. on May 24, police were called to a residence on 19th Street where the homeowner reported finding a damaged soccer goal in her yard. The woman stated she had seen two cars driving around the neighborhood and kids in the area. She said she just wanted the goal removed from her yard. The goal was large, and police said they would contact the roads department to remove it.

Officers out on foot patrol at 7 p.m. on May 24 approached three subjects sitting under a tree with open containers of alcohol at Kah Tai Park. Two of the three were issued admonishments and citations for drinking in public.

At 10:25 p.m. on May 24, a man was arrested for driving erratically on Benton Street. Police stopped the vehicle for having only one functioning headlight, and the driver submitted to a standard field sobriety test. He was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to jail.

Police responded to a call at 6 a.m. on May 25 from an employee at the Food Co-op who reported a man sleeping at the side of the building. When police spoke to the male subject, he admitted to being intoxicated the night before and that he had fallen asleep next to the store. He was polite and cooperative and agreed to move along.

Officers responded at 3:15 p.m. on May 25 to an area on 12th Street where a man was seen sitting in the middle of the street, blocking traffic. When police arrived, the man was found walking on the road and he told police he sat down to give his knee a rest. He was advised to sit on the sidewalk, not in the roadway.

At 6:20 p.m. on May 25, police responded to an area near Monroe Street where an inebriated man was harassing passersby, threatening and screaming at them. He was also heard threatening to flatten tires on vehicles. He resisted arrest and attempted to leave the scene. He was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Police responded to a restaurant on Water Street at 7:30 p.m. on May 25 when a woman called to report her ex-husband was causing a scene by trying to take their daughter on his visitation day. The child did not want to go, and the parents got into a heated debate about visitation. There was no parenting plan in place. The owner of the restaurant asked the man to leave. He left the restaurant, but was found at the back door, talking to other customers. Officers walked him to the front of the building, and he eventually left after being warned not to return to the business.
