The Port Townsend Police Department responded to 232 calls for service between July 14 and July 20, 2017, including 4 general alarm calls, 1 domestic violence incident, 2 burglaries, 5 reports of suspicious circumstances, 4 calls about theft and 88 traffic stops. The following were among the incidents reported:

Two men on bikes crashed and fell multiple times on Water Street at 1:07 a.m., July 17. An officer witnessed the event. Both were intoxicated, the officer concluded. The two were instructed to walk their bicycles back to their hotel.

Police were called to the Port Townsend Public Library at 11:30 a.m. on July 17 after it was reported that a man who had previously been banned from the library for being disruptive, was back, sitting on the steps. He was issued a second-degree trespass admonishment for one year.

At 12:16 p.m. on July 17, an officer responded to the Safeway parking lot, where a person returned to her car after shopping to discover it had been damaged by a hit-and-run driver. No suspect vehicle was found. The officer provided the owner of the vehicle with a case number to give to her insurance company.

On July 19, officers were called to the Northwest Maritime Center, where it was reported that an RV had been parked across the street for the previous six months. It was noted that multiple motorhomes, vans and a school bus were parked in the skateboard parking lot and appeared to be set up as a camp there.

A cell phone was found in the public restroom on Water Street at 11 a.m. on July 19 and turned over to police, who were able to locate the son of the owner. The phone was taken to the department for the owner to pick up.

At 7:50 p.m. on July 19, an officer observed a woman driving on E. Sims Way talking on her cell phone at a stop sign. She was given information about the new distracted driving law, which goes into effect on July 23. She was issued a warning.

A woman called police to report that she had found a dog at 8 p.m. on July 19 on San Juan Ave. The dog had a collar but no tags. The reporting party said she couldn’t keep the dog and asked that it be taken to the animal shelter. The officer took the dog to the shelter.

A man on a corner of Water Street at 11:30 a.m., July 20 was playing a guitar and singing loudly with a microphone. When asked to turn the volume down, he decreased the volume only slightly, an officer noted. He was not in violation of any ordinance.

A man reported on July 20 that a van had been parked on Water and Quincy streets for about a month with two people living in it. The reporting party said the two individuals had been using the bushes there as a bathroom and smoking marijuana in front of an area business. Officers spoke to one of the people in the van, who said she was going to the courthouse to get the vehicle legally licensed and it would be moved that day.

Officers were called to Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park at 12:49 p.m. on July 20 after a man was seen throwing a punch at another person, yelling and throwing things around. The male subject was issued a trespass admonishment from the park for seven days for being disruptive and displaying assaultive behavior.

At 5:25 p.m. on July 20, officers responded to a store parking lot where two men were arguing. One man began throwing things at the other. Both were issued trespass admonishments from the store for one year. About an hour later, one of the men was seen harassing bus riders at the Haines Park and Ride, waving his arms and yelling. The man began experiencing chest pains and was transported by medics to Jefferson Healthcare. The following day, after being released from the hospital, the man was found at another store off Sheridan Street, swearing at customers. He was issued a trespass admonishment and given a courtesy ride to the ferry terminal.
