Port Townsend Police Department officers responded to 210 calls between Aug. 18 and Aug. 24. Among those calls were 3 incidents of people driving under the influence, 1 call about shots fired, 6 reports of theft and 2 calls about suicides. Officers made 65 traffic stops.

Police arrested a man at 11:21 a.m., Aug. 18 for damaging a restroom near the ferry dock and fleeing from the scene. The intoxicated man broke a shelf and damaged pictures in the restroom. The man was detained two blocks away and taken to the hospital for evaluation, after which he was transported to jail.

A pig was said to be loose at the end of Rosecrans Street at about 8 p.m., Aug. 19. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the animal.

A man on a motorcycle was arrested for DUI at 1:17 a.m. on Aug. 20 on Sims Way near Hendricks Street. He was stopped by an officer for swerving across the centerline and into the fog line several times, and for failing to signal when making a turn. He was transported to jail.

Officers responded at 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 20 to a business on Sims Way at Hancock Street, where a woman was seen with two items she had allegedly stolen from a business. When confronted by the business owner, the woman began to yell. She was detained by police and issued a trespass admonishment.

Officers were called to a residence near Jacob Miller Road at 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 20 after a man who was renting the garage at the residence reportedly threatened the property owner with a gun. The man had been asked to leave the residence after he and the property owner engaged in an argument. No gun was found. Police stood by while the man removed his property from the garage. No crime was committed.

At 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, officers responded to the dock on Water Street where an intoxicated woman was yelling and threatening passersby. She had been sleeping next to a building. She was transported to the hospital. No crime had been committed, officers concluded. The female subject was discharged from the hospital the following day, but loudly refused to leave the waiting area of the emergency room. When police arrived at the hospital, the woman was cooperative and phoned her mother to come and get her.

Police responded to the Port of Port Townsend at 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 21 after a man reported he had been assaulted by another man. According to the reporting party, he and the male subject were engaged in a verbal argument when the subject began speaking negatively about the reporting party’s family and spit in his face. The following day, the reporting party told police he had been confronted by the suspect and another transient. He was advised to contact port security for a trespass admonishment.

At 7 a.m. on Aug. 23, an officer responded to a restaurant on Sims Way where a female customer had become upset and began screaming about the meal she ordered and how her bill had been tallied. She refused to leave when asked. When told she could be arrested, she decided to leave. She told the officer she was going to catch a bus to Seattle.

At 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 23, an officer responded to an area on Discovery Road near Grant School where a tree had fallen, partially blocking the road. A local resident removed the tree with his chainsaw. The citizen and the police officer then removed the branches from the roadway.

A resident on Jackman Street contacted police at 2:19 a.m. on Aug. 24 to report a white canvas canopy had blown over a fence and was blocking the road. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed two large canvas tents had blown over the fence from the fairgrounds, blocking both lanes of Jackman Street. They lifted the tents back over the fence.

At 7:25 a.m. on Aug. 24, a Port Townsend police officer responded to a home on Cass Street where a fawn had become stuck in a fence. The officer was able to disassemble the fence and free the fawn.
