Police were continuing their search for a Port Townsend woman early Tuesday after her spouse showed up at a neighbor's house with a hammer in his hand and head injuries.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Jefferson Healthcare and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Jefferson County Sheriff Detective Sgt. Brett Anglin said police were called to a home in the 1900 block of 14th Street in Port Townsend at about 5 a.m. Nov. 2 after a resident in the neighborhood reported a man with a hammer who was ringing the doorbell of the home.
The man told police he was attacked in his home, Anglin said.
Police soon determined the vehicle used by the man's spouse was missing.
Anglin said officers determined the woman was no longer inside the couple's residence and that she had fled the scene.
"Law enforcement eventually went inside the home and are currently processing it as a crime scene," he said.
Around a dozen police units responded to the scene and people were advised to avoid the area.
Anglin said police were still searching for the woman Tuesday morning.
The man who was attacked sustained head and other injuries.
More information on the woman is expected to be released later, he said.
