Serving in Olympia Pierre Ballou, a student at Blue Heron Middle School, is serving as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives this month. Sponsored by state Rep. Steve Tharinger, D-Dungeness, Ballou is the son of Nathalie and Steven Ballou of Port Townsend. Pages perform a wide variety of responsibilities, from presenting flags to distributing amendments on the House floor. In addition to contributing to the efficient operation of the Legislature, pages receive daily civics instruction, draft their own bills and participate in mock committee hearings. Courtesy photo
