Parks, Recreation and Opening Space plan nearing completion

An update to the city’s Parks, Recreation and Opening Space (PROS) plan has been in development since mid-2019 and is nearing completion and approval. The plan evaluates, reviews, prioritizes and makes recommendations for improvements to the city’s parks, open spaces, trails and other publicly managed assets like Mountain View Pool and the Port Townsend Golf Course.

It also assesses costs and reviews funding sources for suggested capital improvement projects.

Residents can comment on the PROS plan at the March 2 regular meeting of the City Council where it will have its first reading.

The 2020 PROS plan is an update of the 2014 plan.

Updates on a six-year cycle are required by the state to remain eligible for Recreation and Conservation Office grants. It also helps the city comply with state Growth Management Act requirements.

The second reading and possible adoption will take place at the March 16 regular City Council meeting.

The draft plan is available for review on the City of Port Townsend website, cityofpt.us.
