Derek Firenze’s Aug. 11 report on the Chimacum School District budget was very well done and sadly illustrates the primary reason we sold our Mats Mats Bay home in 2020 and moved to Texas.
As Mr. Firenze reports, the school district is increasing its budget for next year as enrollment continues to decline. With a $15.3 million budget for next year and projected enrollment dropping to 654 students, that works out to $23,394 in per-pupil spending.
The Texas school in which our child is enrolled has a per-pupil cost that is a fraction of what Chimacum schools spend. Our child’s school has a 100 percent graduation rate and a 100 percent college acceptance rate.
Parents are realizing they can do better for their children by taking them out of failing schools and placing them in institutions that emphasize academics over gimmicks. Thank you for your excellent reporting on this issue.
