Paper art and stitching subject of PtSA live stream lecture

Posted

David Owen Hastings will discuss his stitched paper art during a live streamed lecture at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, presented by Port Townsend School of the Arts.

Hastings will talk about his work as a visual artist and the similarities between his gallery art and how he now works as a quilter.

The talk will start with a review of Hastings’ stitched paper artwork, which he has been creating and showing in galleries for more than two decades. The artist will share examples of where his inspiration comes from, and detail his creative process.

Hastings combines his monotype-printed paper with stitching on a vintage sewing machine, and the examples he will display during the lecture will include details for people who want to create their own stitched paper artwork.

Hastings is currently president of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild, and his lecture will include a look back at his journey from gallery artist into the world of modern quilting.

A question-and-answer session is planned after his presentation.

The cost to attend is $25, with a 10 percent discount available to members. Visit the “Classes” section of www.ptschoolofthearts.org to learn more and register.

The event will be available through the videoconferencing platform Zoom. After registration, participants will receive details about how to log in via email.
