The Trojans outshot East Jefferson 3-1 in boys varsity soccer early last week at Chimacum High.

The contest was a first meeting of the two teams this season and also a matchup between the only two winless teams in the league. The game got off to the worst possible start for East Jefferson, however, as they let in two preventable goals within the first five minutes. 

Not to be cowed by the slow start, EJ kept themselves in the game, creating numerous opportunities to find their first goal of the season. 

Having successfully repelled Olympic’s long ball game, East Jefferson got on the scoreboard as Connor Scanlon broke clear of the defense and passed to Taj Watson to score one-on-one with the keeper. 

With a chance at a tying goal, EJ continued to press for the score only to be undone by what some on the EJ sidelines saw as a questionable referee decision to award a penalty kick to Olympic.

The Trojans converted to take a 3-1 advantage going into halftime. 

The second half was all EJ as they went in relentless search for a way back into the game. 

East Jefferson’s Mark Anderson went close on a few occasions, while Taj Watson brought a magnificent save out of the Olympic keeper.

Aidan Halpin then saw his shot rebound off the inside of the post and the score remained 3-1 until the final whistle.
