Violet Doreen Spring was born May 28, 1920 in Hedley, British Columbia. She went by her middle name, Doreen, and you’d get an earful if you called her Violet. Her parents, Andrew and Kate Enokson, immigrated from England and Norway and met in Hedley, Doreen was their only child. When Doreen was young the family moved to Seattle and that is where she lived most of her life, graduating from Franklin High School in 1939. She married Roy McCarthey and they had 4 children, Janice, Bonnie, and twins, Dennis and Douglas. She worked her entire career at Washington Mutual in downtown Seattle. In 2006 she moved to Port Ludlow, living on her son’s property for 11 years. Doreen lived a long and vibrant life, living on her own until the age of 96 when she moved into Liberty Shores Assisted Living in Poulsbo. Doreen was an outgoing person who participated in many social groups including bowling, singles clubs, and water aerobics. She loved traveling and went to Europe many times and went regularly to Puerto Vallarta and Lake Chelan on trips with family. Anyone who knew her enjoyed her company and feisty spirit. She will be greatly missed. Doreen passed away March 4th, 2019 in the evening surrounded by family. She is survived by 3 of her children, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm at the Port Ludlow Beach Club.
