Sylvia Ruth (Franz) Adams died at the age of 89 on Dec. 16, 2016. She was born to Peter and Agnetha Franz on the family homestead near Schrag, Wash. Sylvia attended the one-room school at Schrag for three years and completed her public school education in Lind, Wash., graduating as valedictorian from Lind High School in 1944. She attended Washington State College (now University) and graduated in 1949.

While at WSC, she met Robert Adams. They married in 1949 and lived in Spokane for a short time before moving to Port Townsend.

Sylvia worked for 25 years as office manager and receptionist for the Olympic Health District and Jefferson County Health Department. After she retired, she enjoyed activities at the Elks Club and the Port Townsend Garden Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Townsend.

Sylvia was an avid gardener and loved to bake. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls. She had a number of favorite TV shows that she never missed. Her children knew not to call her during Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Sylvia is survived by three of her four children: Vicki Adams, Richard Adams, and Alan Adams; and one granddaughter, Taylor Adams. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her son Stephen, her parents, one sister and three brothers.
