Obituary: Ruby Irene Olsen

Ruby Irene Olsen was born in Alicia, Arkansas to William and Jesse Harris on July 21st 1925 and died in Port Townsend, Washington on February 26th 2019 at the age of 93. She died peacefully of natural causes at her home with family and friends at her bedside. She had been under Hospice care for four months.

Ruby’s parents had four daughters and two sons. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters and husband Frank. She is survived by her sister Sybil Griffin of Jonesboro AR and brother Bill Harris (Delores) of Florence AL, sons Tom Olsen of Port Townsend and Jack Olsen of Port Ludlow along with two grandsons and two great granddaughters. She also has many nieces and nephews.

Ruby and Frank got married in Port Townsend on May 6th 1950. Their first home was an apartment in the Starrett Mansion when it was an apartment building.

Ruby worked for the local telephone company as a switchboard operator and for The Printery before finally retiring at 74. She was also a founding member of the local Church of Christ in the 1960s.

A celebration of life will be held at the Church of Christ in Port Townsend on March 30th at 12 p.m.
