Port Townsend, WA

Aug. 16, 1935 – March 28, 2017

Maitland Hardyman passed away March 28, 2017, due to chronic respiratory failure while in hospice care at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital. Maitland was born in New York City on Aug. 16, 1935 to George Hugh Murray Maitland Hardyman and Susan Dimmock Isham.

Maitland married Doris Frank Hardyman on Sept. 17, 1956 in Los Angeles, Calif. He had a B.A. and M.A. from University of Chicago, as well as a BFA from Chouinard Art Institute in Calif.

Maitland was first and foremost an artist who sometimes worked as a teacher in art schools. He loved building complicated models of trains, airplanes and sailing ships. He was a valued member at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for the past 29 years.

Maitland is survived by his wife Doris; son Hugh (Susan); daughter Laura; and three grandchildren, Leia, Joe and Alice.

A memorial service officiated by Bruce Bode will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Unitarian Fellowship in Port Townsend, Wash. The reception will be a time for friends and family to greet each other and talk glowingly about Maitland.

Maitland will be buried in Manchester, Vermont in July. Memorial donations may be made to the Boiler Room in Port Townsend, Wash., as Maitland was on the Boiler Room Board for more years than he could remember.
