George Washington Fiedler, age 91, of Nordland, Wash. was born on Feb. 22, 1925 in New Leipzig, North Dakota He passed away on Feb. 12, 2017 at the Life Care Center in Port Townsend, Wash. as a result of a sudden heart attack.

His father's name was William Fiedler and his mother's name was Anna Gessele. He was married to Patricia McCombs Fiedler who survives him. They were married on June 5, 1949 in Nordland.

He served in the United States Army from July 30, 1943 until April 20, 1946. He was in London during the Blitz. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He spent some time in Germany before he was brought home and honorably discharged on April 20, 1946.

After he returned from the Army he went to Walla Walla College, now known as Walla Walla University. He took one year off from 1948-1949 to teach grade school in Nordland, Wash.

After getting married he returned to Walla Walla where he earned his B.A. in Math and Physics.

He had his own electrical business in Walla Walla until he went to work for the Navy as a Naval Architect in 1953.

He returned to Walla Walla College in 1957 to pick up some Chemistry and Biology. In 1960 he was asked to teach at Kiona-Benton High School. He tauught there from 1960-1964 when he returned to work for the Navy Yard in Bremerton, Wash.

In 1980 he was transferred to Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C. where he worked until he retired in 1985.

His favorite hobby was amateur radio. While he worked in Bremerton he belonged to the Amateur Radio Association of Bremerton. After he retired he joined the local Jefferrson County Radio Club. He especially liked working with Search and Rescue. When his hearing went he set up an Amateur Positioning Radio System in our bedroom so he could at least watch where the other operators were.

He was a member of the Port Townsend Seventh Day Adventist Church where he held several offices.

George is predeceased by his brothers Willie, Oscar, Alvin, Fred and Eugene. He is also predeceased by his sisters Esther, Adeline and Ruth.

He is survived by his spouse, Patricia Fiedler of Nordland. His sons: Michael Jay McCombs Fiedler (Lynn Marie Sparr) of Burlington, Wash.; Vaun Ray Fiedler (Karen Lynn Gates) of Bonney Lake, Wash.; David Alan Fiedler (Clarissa Mariann Hawes) of Falkland, British Columbia. His daughters: Melinda Kaye Hoskins (David Hoskins) of Minden, Nev.; Vicki Sue Allen of York, Penn. His brothers: Aaron Fiedler (Vegie McGuire) of Centralia,Wash; James Fiedler (Glenda Oxford) of Ceres, Calif. His sisters: Nyrabelle Clague (Fred Clague) of Longmont, Colo.; Marilyn (Cindy) Nelson of Topeka, Kan.

George is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial open house potluck at the Fiedler home on May 29 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., which is the only time all five children can get together.
