Douglas L. Barber, age 81, of Port Ludlow, Wash. passed peacefully to the other side on Dec. 29, 2016 at 8:40 p.m. after a long struggle with heart and kidney disease. He was born in Jamestown, NY on Sept. 6, 1935 to Gertrude and Rexford Barber.

Doug earned a Master of Arts degree in Legal Studies from Antioch University, Yellow Springs, Ohio. He did his undergraduate work at Denison University, Granville, Ohio. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers as an enlisted man and met his wife while stationed in Germany in 1958. They were married Oct. 10, 1958. 

His career spanned 38 years and was spent working primarily for non-profit youth organizations including the Boy Scouts of America where he held several executive positions; Youth for Understanding (YFU) International Student Exchange as Field Director and Deputy Director; Future Business Leaders of America (Phi Beta Lambda) as Executive Vice President; National Reyes Syndrome Foundation as Executive Director; and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as the Deputy Director.

He was also an active member in the Port Ludlow community and served on the Inner Harbor Village Board. He loved life on the Peninsula and enjoyed the outdoors.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Marianne; two daughters, Cynthia and Christine; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Barber. 

He will be forever in our hearts, and greatly missed.
