David Scott Backman, Sr.

Port Townsend, Wash.

David Scott Backman Sr.of Port Townsend, Wash. was born August 21, 1945 in Seattle, Washington. David passed peacefully on March 25, 2017. David graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1963. David was a lifelong friend of many of his classmates, traveling regularly with them, as well as being an avid fan and supporter of the Redskins.

David's career with Chevron Corporation in Concord spanned 32 years. Upon his retirement, he moved back home to Port Townsend where he enjoyed golfing, outdoor activities and trips in his trailer with his special lady, Sheryl Coyote. David was the Exalted Ruler of the Port Townsend Elks and was deeply committed to his faith in God and attending Calvary Church.

David is survived by his two sons David (Nikki) Backman, Jr. and Chris (Jonette) Backman; his mother, June Poulsen; brothers, Mark and Steve (Laura); sister Janelle; and niece Sarah. Papa Big Dave was a proud and loving grandparent making a point every year to come celebrate his grandchildren's birthdays in California. He will be extremely missed by CJ, Jacob, Brooke, Jaxon, and Mason. David was preceded in death by both of his fathers, Everett Backman and Don Poulsen.

Services will be held Sunday, April 9, at the Cavalry Church in Port Townsend at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to:
