Charles Fred Springer, 92, died peacefully on Apr. 9, 2017 at Life Care Center of Port Townsend, Wash. Charles was born Sept. 10, 1924 to Fred and Delma Springer in Chehalis, Wash. His parents moved to Brinnon, Wash. in 1946. In 1950 he purchased the land that he later built their home on in Brinnon. He remained in his home until October 2014, when he was moved into assisted living in Port Townsend.

Charles was in and out of the Navy and had worked in Alaska for a time before coming to help his parents settle onto the property in Brinnon. He lived in a logging camp in Forks, Wash. for a few years. He joined the Navy and served in World War II, spending time in Honolulu, Hawaii. He married Tillie Ackerman of Quilcene, Wash. on Oct. 14, 1950. Charles was a logger who loved hunting, fishing, and clam digging.

He leaves behind his wife Tillie Springer of Brinnon, Wash.; his son Karl Springer (Robin) of Glendale, Ky.; and daughter Colleen Williams (Pat) of Baker City, Ore. He is survived by his brother Ralph Springer of Lake Nawatzel, Wash. and sisters Annabelle Price Morrison of Brinnon, Wash.; Jeanette Thomas of Lacey, Wash.; and Eileen Blenz (Bob) of Bellevue, Wash. Grandchildren include Lon Springer of Asheville, N.C.; Julie Williams Kang (James) of Sanford, N.C.; Mathew Williams of Baker City, Ore.; Megan Springer Fields (Tom) and Katlin Springer of Brinnon, Wash.; Erin Springer of Glendale Ky.; four great-grandchildren Abbigale, Emily, and Gabriel Fields; and Elaynah Williams. In 1996 his son Larry Springer preceded Charles in death.
