Anthony H. “Tony” Mitchell, 86, died Feb. 19, 2017 in Long Beach, Calif. after a long illness.

He was born July 10, 1930 in Staffordshire England, the only son of Rev. William H. Mitchell and Muriel Mitchell (Benton). He graduated from King's School in Worcester, England and then served 18 years in Royal Navy both as a seaman and diving officer. He married Heather Sherwood and was blessed with two daughters, Fiona and Philippa.

In 1964 the family moved to Bermuda and from there to California where Tony was a medical supply salesman. In 1986 he and Heather, with two dogs, drove north and landed in the Port Townsend area, bought an appliance store and lived in Port Hadlock for 29 years. Tony was a member of Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary and also former president of Port Townsend Rotary club.

Due to declining health they moved back to California to live with Pippa.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Heather; daughter Pippa; grandchildren Michael DeDominick (Carol), Catherine (David) Hill, and Brian DeDominick; son-in-law Mark DeDominick; andgreat-grand children Jacob and Catie. He was predeceased by daughter Fiona DeDominick. His ashes will be placed in the columbarium at Grace Lutheran Church, Port Townsend.
