I walk about 30 miles a week, usually beginning each walk from our front door. For years I walked in Fort Townsend State Park, which I could easily access from our house. The trails are wonderful, the plants are amazing and the trees are huge. Thank you to the Friends of Fort Townsend State Park for maintaining the trails.
Two years ago, we moved to town. I can now easily reach the Larry Scott Trail from our house via a steep descent on a wooded trail. I also have easy access the huge network of marked, and some unmarked, trails — I prefer to call them paths — that crisscross Port Townsend. On a 3-mile walk, I can reach Fort Townsend State Park or the Cappy’s Trails area while staying mostly on paths rather than streets.
My principal purpose is to thank the non-motorized transportation committee of Port Townsend for the gift of these paths. I (we) owe particular appreciation to Scott Walker, longtime advocate of the network of paths. His vision and relentless pursuit of that vision has been of paramount importance to the success of the project. The paths and trails so easily available to Port Townsend citizens provide an extremely positive improvement to our quality of life.
Thanks to the city, the committee and all those who are continuing to develop new trails and maintain the existing routes.
