A Chevrolet SSR pickup truck driven by an 82-year-old Port Townsend man pulled out in front of a southbound semitruck loaded with paper rolls from the Port Townsend Paper Corp. at 3:06 p.m., Aug. 17 at the intersection of State Route 20 and South Discovery Road.

The driver of the semi, a 28-year-old man from Oxnard, California, was unable to stop his truck before striking the pickup, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR). There were no other occupants in the vehicles. Both drivers were evaluated by emergency personnel before being released. The crash resulted in slowed traffic for more than an hour.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident, according to EJFR officials.
