Once upon a time there was a housing shortage in Port Townsend. With a wartime military build up at Fort Worden housing was hard to find. So people built the housing project. Then the military left circa 1952, and the housing was no loner needed. The housing project was torn down (some buildings were moved). It was at the sight later occupied by the Junior High School and pool, down by the golf course (the building since used for other purposes). Now there is a housing shortage again.
